Clinical and Ethical Scenario Questions

You may be asked to answer a clinical or ethical scenario as part of the written literacy test.

When answering these questions, our top tips are:

  • Read the scenario carefully, highlighting the key clues.

  • Detail the approach you would take step by step, giving reasons for each action.

  • Outline the care plan you would provide, how you would implement it and how you would evaluate

  • Mention how you would use your communication skills when talking to the patient and their family

  • The Code of Standards mentions keeping clear and accurate records relevant to your practice, so you must detail how you would document everything, including the action you took.

  • Use the resources around you. If the scenario leads you to a point where the patient becomes urgent, you must inform and involve senior staff. Do not overstep your position or complete procedures you are not yet qualified for.
